Joseph Michael Daniels is a globally recognised sustainable technologist, innovator, and entrepreneur who has redefined the boundaries of affordable net-zero construction and climate technology.
By the age of 30, he had delivered some of the world’s most advanced and affordable net-zero homes across four continents, raising over £40 million to scale sustainable infrastructure. A Forbes 30 Under 30 honouree, his work has been recognised by the World Economic Forum, the United Nations, and the U.S. Department of Energy, winning global awards for innovation, affordability, and carbon reduction.
In 2019, Joseph delivered the world’s most affordable net-zero home in Africa, built at just £350 per sqm. This landmark project was recognised by the World Economic Forum as a breakthrough in sustainable development and selected by the United Nations for its 75th Anniversary publication as a flagship innovation in replacing informal settlements with climate-resilient, affordable housing. In the United States, his DOE award-winning housing design saves over $100,000 in lifetime energy costs, unlocking new financial models using bonds and capital markets to make sustainable housing more affordable.
He founded Project Etopia in 2015, developing modular building systems that outperformed Passivhaus standards, culminating in the world’s first home to achieve a SAP/EPC score of 104 (A+)—producing more energy than it consumes. From Namibia to New York to Saudi Arabia, Joseph has established pilot projects and factories that prove advanced panelised systems can deliver rapid, scalable, and climate-resilient housing worldwide.
In 2022, Joseph launched Elixr to build next-generation smart nations under its Planet 2030 vision. Elixr now incubates and scales frontier technologies including:
* ArcLive – a real-time data and energy platform powering green finance,
* Senze – digital twin retrofit and decarbonisation solution,
* MetaConnex – 4D planning and finance for smart cities,
* LIVAC – the future of HVAC,
* Ignisium – recycled glass building systems,
* Steps – an innovative regeneration finance vehicle.
Beyond his ventures, Joseph is President of the UK Government–funded , Built Environment Data-Sharing Infrastructure, an evolution of the Live Data Trust which he co-founded, aligning national data infrastructure with sustainability, trust, and innovation. an Advisor to the UK Government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) on its Construct Zero programme. He also supports the World Bank’s green building accreditation partner, Sintali, and works with the Department for Business and Trade on critical rare earth technologies.
His journey from homelessness at 15 to becoming a global pioneer in sustainable innovation has been celebrated at the London Film Awards, featured in CNBC, Bloomberg, World Economic Forum and recognised by the United Nations as a leading voice in climate innovation.
